Overview:
Mustang often hailed as the Hidden Himalayan Kingdom and to be a last citadel of Tibetan culture was only opened in 1991 for trekking. If you are looking for a very cultural trek having stunning barren moonscape landscapes with numerous yellow and grey rolling hills eroded by the wind, Mustang serves you the best option! Upper Mustang Trekking offers you to explore the treeless barren landscape along with discontinuous moraine terraces and wonderful cultural and biological diversity.
As locally known as ‘Lo’, Mustang literally means the ‘arid’ region. It was a bustling place before seven hundred years ago and was regarded as the center of Buddhist teachings and art. Mustang was used as the easiest salt trade connection between Tibet and cities of the Indian subcontinent. If you choose to venture into Upper Mustang Trek, you enter into a restricted area, previously allowed some 200 trekkers through annually only. While the trail is just amazing and rewarding, its barren and rural landscapes are also going to be equally demanding for you, in the sense of confidence. However the trek itself does not go to extremely high elevations and not physically very demanding, the relentless afternoon winds can be your challenge. But regardless of any challenges, if you want to explore the hidden land of wonderful culture and unique landscape, Upper Mustang Trek is going to be a perfect trip for you.
