1. Saipal Himal Trek

Khaptad National Park is a protected area in the Far-Western Region of Nepal which was established in 1984 on the advice of the region’s holy man Khaptad Baba. The Park stretches over four districts of Bajhang,Bajura, Accham and Doti and covers an area of 225 square km. The landscape consists of steep slopes, streams and moorland. 6. Dhaulagiri Curcuit Trek

The Dhaulagiri Circuit is a rugged trek to the west of the Annapurnas, starting from Pokhara and following the Myagdi Khola to its source at the Chhonbardan Glacier below the world’s seventh highest mountain. From Dhaulagiri Base Camp at the foot of the north face, you trek up the side of the glacier and over the French Col to enter “Hidden Valley”. This is an extremely remote hanging valley, the crossing of which gives this trek more of an expedition feels. From the Hidden Valley there is an option to climb the non-techical Dhampus Peak (6,060m). Under normal conditions the standard route follows moderate snow slopes to the summit and can be attempted by those with ice axe and crampon experience. You then make a steep descent to Jomsom, where you will meet trekkers who have descended from the Thorong La on the Annapurna Circuit. Rather than trekking back to Pokhara via the Kaligandaki Valley, which has been subject to major road-building in recent years, you fly from here back to Kathmandu.

8. Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve

Special because Upper Dolpo is a culturally Tibetan region and one of the few places where Bön villages and gompas (monasteries) can still be found. Bön is the Tibetan religion that pre-dates Tibetan Buddhism. Up until 1996 foreigners were not allowed access to this region so the culture has largely been unchanged and unaffected by tourism. Shey Gompa, visited at the mid-point of the trek, is revered as one of most important spiritual places in Upper Dolpo. Here, twice a year, many pilgrims arrive to complete a kora (or circuit) of Crystal Mountain, this is known as a younger brother of Mount Kailash in Tibet.
