The Khopra Danda Trek is one of the recently established treks which sits away from the busy trails of Annapurna. Sit back and relax as you observe the surreal view of mountains like Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna South (7219m), and Nilgiri (7061m) while you enjoy the chilly Himalayan air at top of Poon Hill. Even better, the holy aura engulfing the Khayer Lake makes this trip much more appealing. This 13-day trek takes you through the Gurung settlements which are heavily influenced with Buddhism. For travelers willing to learn culture and nature, the Khopra Danda trek is made for them.

This trek starts with your arrival in the Kathmandu valley and after you have completed all the legal proceedings, we shall drive to Pokhara. You also have the option to take a flight to Pokhara which significantly reduces the transportation time to reach Pokhara. From Pokhara, a short drive leads to Nayapul which is the trail-head for the trek. The trail to Ghandruk goes through rhododendron forests. At Ghandruk, we can visit the rich Gurung museum and observe the Annapurna mountain range. The journey takes place as we navigate through Bhaisi Kharka to reach Tadapani. Next, we pass Dobato and trek to Upper Chistibung. It is the final step before Khopra ridge. The Khopra ridge overlooks the Kali Gandaki valley and is a great place to witness dazzling scenery of the Annapurna range. Explore the Khayer Lake which is an important pilgrimage for Hindus and Buddhists. From here, we shall start our return as we head to Ghorepani. The next day, we shall climb Poon hill which is a great vantage point to witness the allure of Annapurna region. After the climb, we will drive to Pokhara via Nayapul and the next day a flight will take us to Kathmandu where the trip shall end.

Itineraries

Arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport and meet our representative who will transfer you to your hotel. Once at Kathmandu, you can head to your hotel or make a visit at Thamel. You can explore some of the nearby attractions to end the day. Overnight in Kathmandu.

From Kathmandu, we shall head to Pokhara. The journey goes through the Prithvi highway and it takes somewhere between 7 to 8 hours. You can also choose to take a short flight to Pokhara. Once in Pokhara, you can explore the Phewa Lake, Davis Falls, and the Gupteshwor Cave. In the evening, you can take a stroll around the Lakeside. Overnight in Pokhara. 

From Pokhara, we shall initially drive to Nayapul and then make our way through the dense rhododendron forests. From here, it is a relatively easy climb to the Gurung village of Ghandruk. The trail is also filled with rhododendron forests and heads north along the Modi River. At Ghandruk, you can visit the Gurung Culture Museum and enjoy Gurung hospitality.

In the morning, we can enjoy the views of the sunrise over the Himalayas like Annapurna South (7219m) and Mt. Machhapuchhre (6997m). The trail to Tadapani climbs a lot of stone steps when it exits Ghandruk. This trail is part of the Poon hill trek too. Admire the panoramic views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges as we navigate through Gurung villages to reach Tadapani. Overnight in Tadapani.

The trail to Dobato goes through Isharu. The trail also offers a brilliant display of the Annapurna Himalayas. The trek runs parallel to the Tibuje River while continuing eastward. Cross green plains and hills and finally arrive at Dobato also known as Baisi Kharka. Dobato is a small settlement which comprises of teahouses and Gurung people. Overnight in Dobato.

As we pack our bags in Dobato, we make our way towards the pasture of Lower Chistibung. The road goes across forests before finally reaching Upper Chistibung. There are small herders residing here and it is the abode of Danphe. The trail leading to Upper Chistibung is also home to Himalayan Tahr and Musk Deer which live on the grassy ridges and forests. Overnight in Upper Chistibung.

The trail sees a certain climb above the ridgeline through the alpine meadows to reach Khopra. Along the way, we can see the summit of Annapurna South (7219m). After arriving in Khopra, we take a short light walk to the Khopra ridge. This is a great viewpoint which overlooks the Kali Gandaki River and its valley. You can also enjoy the stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Later, we head back to the village and enjoy local cuisines. Overnight in Khopra Ridge.

Today, we shall take a quick stroll around Khopra. We shall visit Khayer Lake, which is a religious lake for both Hindus and Buddhists. There are numerous Buddhist shrines near the lake premises. It is believed that if you bath in the lake, you can attain nirvana and cleanse your sins away. We will interact with the locals residing here and learn about their culture. Overnight in Khopra.

The trekking trail from Khopra takes us down the hill and along steep tracks which are prone to landslides. Along the way, we can see lovely views of the Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m) with a backdrop of terraced fields and traditional houses. For the final part of the trek, you walk along the Dhasta Khore River to reach Swanta. Overnight in Swanta.

From Swanta, the trail sees an initial increase in elevation that involves climbing plentiful of stairs. The destination for the day is Ghorepani which is a popular resting point for those on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek or the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. The residents here are mostly Gurungs and they are involved in tourism and animal husbandry. Overnight in Ghorepani.

We shall wake up early and go on a hike that takes us to the summit of Poon Hill. It is a famous vantage point from where we can see the gorgeous display of faraway mountains like Annapurna I (8091m), Dhaulagiri I (8167m), Annapurna South (7219m), and Machhapuchhre (6997m). If you want to experience this trek in its full grandeur, then we advise you to take this trek during October. From here, we slowly make our way back Nayapul. We shall catch a bus that leads us to Pokhara from here. Overnight in Pokhara

Today, we shall head back to Kathmandu from Pokhara. You have the option of either flying or driving back to Kathmandu. Once in Kathmandu, you can go souvenir shopping in Thamel. If you fly to Kathmandu, you can also visit some of the UNESCO world heritage sites in Kathmandu. Taste some authentic cuisine at the restaurants and diners in the city. Overnight in Kathmandu.
