In light of the majestic Annapurna and Everest regions, the Eastern Himalayas often go unnoticed. Milke Danda Trek is a journey through the settlements of the Kirant and Limbu tribes leading to mesmerizing Himalayan views. The Himalayan panorama comprises mountains like the majestic Kanchenjunga (8,586m), Makalu (8,463m), Kumbakarna (7,710m), Kangbachen (7,903m), and numerous others in the Kanchenjunga range. Our adventure begins from the Kathmandu Valley as we tour around the UNESCO world heritage sites before heading towards the hilly town of Basantapur. Leading up to the Arun Valley, the journey begins as we trek towards Chauki for our first night on the go. Continuing through the lush green forests, the journey takes us to Gupha Pokhari. Further ahead, the trails are heavily dominated by rhododendron trees. Separating the two valleys Arun and Tamor lie a high forest ridgeline which leads up to the mesmerizing Milke Danda. Here, we take a day off at the hill station. Here, we can enjoy the vistas of the Himalayas in eastern Nepal including Kanchenjunga (8586m) and its entire range. Similarly, we get to know more about the local way of life and also try out some local delicacies at the Kirant settlements. The beginning of the descent sees us travel down to the hamlet of Bhalukhop before heading towards Pokhari and then to Chainpur for our final day of trekking. Driving towards Tumlingtar we board the plane back to Kathmandu ending our journey. Autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) are the ideal times to undertake the Milke Danda Trek.
