As the hike progresses, the trails stretch along with forests and numerous settlements. After hiking for a few hours, you arrive at Changunarayan. Changunarayan Temple is also a UNESCO world heritage site and is one of the oldest Hindu temples in the country. The pagoda-style temple also houses the statue of sleeping, Lord Vishnu. The temple also has a number of statues, paintings, murals, and smaller shrines which all has great religious significance. After you explore the temple to your heart's content, you can return to Kathmandu.

Itineraries

Day 1: Nagarkot Changunarayan Hike

Morning:

You start the trip early by driving to Nagarkot before dawn. The drive begins in Kathmandu and heads to Bhaktapur before making its way to Nagarkot. The drive offers surreal scenery of the surrounding hills and forests all the way to the Nagarkot viewpoint. Here, you enjoy the spectacular sunrise with the mountain ranges of Langtang, Ganesh, Gaurishankar, Manaslu, and even the Everest range. After relishing the views, you have your breakfast and then prepare for the hike.

Day:

The hike from Nagarkot to Changunarayan begins as you leave the gorgeous town of Nagarkot and start to descend. The hike takes you through a number of picturesque villages which offer you the opportunity to witness their traditional lifestyle. After 3-4 hours of walk, you reach the famous Changunarayan Temple. You explore the temple and get insights on one of the biggest Hindu temples in Nepal. This UNESCO world heritage site is also famous for the statue of Lord Vishnu along with a number of other shrines around the main temple. Then you drive back to Kathmandu and end the Nagarkot Changunarayan Hiking trip.
