The Nepalese Himalayas is undoubtedly one of the greatest trekking destinations in the world and is the land of snow peaks and fluttering prayer flags and epic mountain adventures. While taking into account the majority of trekkers that flock to Nepal often test themselves on two of the classic trekking expeditions: Annapurna Circuit and Everest Base Camp Treks. But it's not that these two are the only best options for them. There are many excellent hikes hidden in the shadows of popular and crowded trails. And of course, they are quite promising, peaceful and less trodden trails as well. So, the Great Himalaya Trail offers the life defining opportunity for those who are looking for the cutting edge adventure travel in Nepal. Go somewhere you've never been and experience the unforgettable mountain adventure in Nepal.

The Great Himalayan Trail takes you through the Himalayan foothills, rocks and ice, most of the times through lesser-known routes exploring the something new in Nepal Himalayas, Being a newly opened route, we have lots of new things to explore during the trip. The Great Himalayan Trail was officially opened in September 2011 in hot pursuit of encouraging tourists to explore more of the country. It covers the mind-blowing 1700 kilometers of track that has been divided into 10 different sections, through the best places to explore east to west of Nepal Himalayas

Let's discuss a bit on the highlights of the Great Himalayan Trail:

Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek

The strenuous trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp can be done as a teahouse trek or entirely in a camping basis as well. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trail, located close to the border with India and Sikkim, needs approx. 20 days to be completed. The trail passes through forest-shrouded hillsides, remote and narrow valleys, and warm Sherpa villages where you will be offered Tongba—a warming mountain pick-me-up made up of fermented millet and hot water. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek offers you a true wilderness experience.

Numbur Cheese Circuit Trail

Numbur Cheese Circuit Trail is a 16-day circuit in the Ramechhap region of Nepal. Ramechhap is only 100 kilometers east of Kathmandu. During this trip, we follow the part of Sir Edmund Hillary's approach trail to Everest. Be sure that this trek is going to be as much a cultural experience as it's a foot journey. We follow the off-the-beaten track passing through isolated Sherpa communities, huge rhododendron forests and alpine wilderness. Gyajo La (4880m) is going to be the highest point of Numbur Cheese Circuit Trail and here, you might even spot an elusive snow leopard. As the name says, Numbur Cheese Circuit Trail offers you the yak-milk cheese made by Sherpa people.

Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Community Trail

Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Community Trail is just a 9-day route passing through the world's deepest river gorge at Kaligandaki River Valley on the narrow village pathways. You need to cross Khopra Ridge along with the moss-swatched rhododendron forests where you might even have chance to spot tigers and bears roaming around. Khopra Danda offers arguably the best views over the Annapurna and Dhalagiri. Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Trek is also an opportunity for you to interact with local communities of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Region.

Jomsom to Mustang Trail

Jomsom to Mustang trek is another highlighting trip under our Great Himalayan Trail. This trip takes approx. 12 days following an ancient trade route to the enclosed city of Lo Manthang. You need to fly to Jomsom, the starting point of Jomsom to Mustang trail. The trekking route passes throughs and arid and wind sculpted terrain, Buddhist gompas, cave temples and stupas, past stone villages and ever-welcoming local guesthouses as well. Jomsom-Mustang Trek is even accessible for less experienced trekkers as well because the maximum altitude we have to reach is only 4070m. And we can travel some parts of the route by jeep or horseback. When you are in Mustang, you will feel like secretly entering the Tibet. Jomsom-Mustang trail is undoubtedly an incredible cultural and historical rendezvous with outstanding highland backdrop.

Dolpa Circuit

When it comes to Dolpa and its outstanding landscape, we need to discuss about Eric Valli-made film Himalaya. Eric was the first person to bring out such a desolately beautiful landscape of Dolpa to the outside world via his documentary Himalaya in 1999. Dolpa still is one of the least visited destinations in Nepal. Dolpa Circuit, being the part of the Great Himalayan Trail, takes you through the beautiful barren landscapes, alpine meadows, high altitude deserts of Tibetan Plateau, and such a jewel-blue lake of Shey Phoksundo as well. The trip takes around two weeks to complete the entire Dolpo Circuit. You can also explore the predominant Buddhist culture and also get to visit the Buddhist Gompas.

Rara Lake

Rara Lake, the largest lake in Nepal, is undoubtedly the sparkling azure centerpiece of Rara National Park, the least visited and smallest protected area in Nepal. Situated at the western part of Nepal, Rara Lake trail needs you to fly to Jumla and then 10 consecutive days of trekking expedition. The Rara National Park is the home to abundant wildlife including Himalayan black bears, jackals, red pandas, otters and magnificent tall Himalayan cedars full of chattering birds.
